Can you help with my major dental questions/problems?

I need 7 extractions, 7 implants, 14 crowns, 2 3-init bridges and 1 4-unit bridge. I was told it would be $54,000. I've been in hysterical tears ever since I found out. I'm so upset! Should I just give up and get dentures? How much do they cost? Can you believe how f'ing much this will cost? Dentists are robbers! I think the guy I went to is the most expensive in the East. I'm soliciting for other estimates. Any advice anyone? If I could just stop crying!

Can you help with my major dental questions/problems?
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. Please calm down. What your dentist did was give you an estimate based on you wanting to keep as many as your natural teeth as possible and very high end dentistry. However, this type of monies is not practical nor should you do it. If you teeth have decayed and broken down for a long time, the root structure and gum tissue may not be the best to do this. Also this type of dentistry is over kill. Without a regimine of constant cleaning and maintenance it will can fail in places where the natural retained root may decay with time. I think you should see another dentist and get a pratical workable treatment plan. I can't see your mouth but I would consider 1 of two things.

First, on the upper, remove the teeth and sink 4 implants for a implant retained denture. Done properly, they look great, only come out when you want them to and you clean, soak denture, rinse mouth and return. You can eat most foods and no one will know.

Second, on the bottom if I read this right, you can so the same or if you have your front anterior teeth, cap or bridge them and then either do implant retained bridges in each side or repeat the process as the upper.

Age is a large factor. If you are over 55, I would go the implant denture route. Simple because the cost in this day is age in enough of a burden without taking out a loan or 2nd mortgage at this age. And you only need 12 teeth on each arch to each, chew and smile. So you can avoid replacing the molar area unless of them would support a bridge.

The implant retained dentures would probably run about 12-18K but you could have them the rest of your life.

I am in the NJ/NYC area and the cost is higher here. But that doesn't mean you should be robbed. MOST dentists will work with you and the lab cost is NEVER as much as the tell you it. In fact it is grossly over stated to justify these type of costs. Also I would not trust a general dentist to to this type of restorative, you would need a specialist and that cost is about right for one.

Personally, I would never suggest this type of treatment unless the person is of means or insists they want it. Eventually bridges and crowns have to be replaced and this starts the process all over. If you tell me where you are, I will ask around for someone in your area. However, I can honestly tell you, there would be morecosts here then he said. I would think you would also need root canals and periodontal surgery if your teeth are this bad.

I also do not know your age and this is always a critical factor in helping someone make a good choice. I can't answer this questions again, but you wish to leave an email I will try to help you find someone in your area. If I can't get back to you, then shop around. MANY dentists are desperare for new patients and will take a case like this. Ask for 3 different types of treatment plans and the time frame. Obviously unretained dentures are not an option. They fall out and loosen when eating and talking at times. So a few implants would add support and strenght and you can feel confident to wear them around people.

Personally I feel this guy needs a lesson in bedside manners. No one unless they have money to burn has this kind of monies. Has he watch the Market and how much monies this Country owes? I guess he was counting on you putting his kid through 2 years of college or a down payment on a shore house. Find another dentist, this guy is off the wall for sure. There are always workable options and INSURANCE will not pay for most of this. So you need a real plan and find a real dentist that cares. IMO. M
Reply:OK, calm down. I think you went to an expensive dentist.

Do you have dental insurance? If so, that will help defray the cost. Also, consider visiting a dentist or oral surgeon who will put you to sleep and perform several things at the same time. I have two really good dentists in my area that will do this if you are in the Kentucky area.

Another thing to consider is to go to a dental school. It may take a while, but their prices are usually really good and they do good work because they are being watched and evaluated.

You could get all your teeth pulled and upper and lower dentures (in my area) for under $1500.

A girl I know spent $25,000 and got all her teeth pulled and replaced with implants.

So I think that the dentist you went to is not giving you all your options.

Hang in there and be strong. Just advocate for yourself and keep shopping around. Remember that you are their customer and you say what goes.

Good luck! :)
Reply:Really i would take vacation for 2 or 3 weeks and go to Mexico and fix your teeth there. This is a lots of money

Dentures it`s last move, now stop crying please
Reply:My goodness!! For all that? It would be less expensive to have your teeth all pulled and get the dentures. Wow. Get another opinion from other dentists definitely. You are smart for taking that step.
Reply:Um, major problem. You've listed dental work for more teeth that are in adult mouths. I would suggest finding another dentist.
Reply:$ 54.000 forget it, get dentures and with the rest of the money buy a Jaguar and take me out for lunch and I promise you will stop crying.
