First, do teeth shift down, like drop down when about to shift or prior to shifting out or over? If so why? seems weird they like fall out of your jawbone, so here is the speal, i had a bone graft put in my jaw above incisor and canine( both teeth gone) lost one then otherten years later. needed to replace bone loss to prepare for implants down road, so i have cap on tooth behind it from a bridge that bridged the first tooth missing, and after surgery the cap sorta dropped down some. doc said he can just do some reshaping of cap, well then i got this flipper( denture with two teeth on it, it had pressure on that side on back teeth, and the teeth shifted down also i notice, so hitting all of two teeth in mouth now, two molar behind missing canine and then out, forward from pressue, but now hoping will shift back on own with relieved pressure off back of them.
Anyhow what i dont get, is why the teeth dropped down first, like even if it shift back will it go back up into the jaw??
Okay so bare with me i had a bunch of dental surgery done but some very basic questions about teeth shifting.?
The position of your teeth depend a lot on all the other teeth that are around it and opposing them. If you let them teeth will tend to drop down and go towards the midline of your mouth. Teeth on top will drop down if there is nothing opposing them on the bottom, this is called supra-eruption. If your tooth does drop down there is no real way to really push it back in to the bone. The only thing you can do is to grind down the tooth so it is in normal position and put something opposing it like your flipper (temporary denture) to stabilize the tooth.
If your tooth has moved foward or tilted foward because of a lack of a tooth in front of it you can have a procedure like a molar uprighting which is kinda like braces for that particular tooth to straighten it out. It is really up to the dentist to see what needs to be done because that will not always be the best choice of treatment.
Reply:teeth will shift to fill the space..
don't know why either but once they are down... they stay down
