Has anyone ever had a dental maryland bridge?

Was it succesful.

Has anyone ever had a dental maryland bridge?
I do about 3 or 4 Maryland Bridges each year - maybe even less. I am VERY careful about where I place them. I did my first one in 1978 and I just saw the patient. Her bridge is still bonded in place and is showing no signs of going anywhere.

I dare say that every Maryland Bridge I ever placed is still in service, but I admit that not all of these patients are still living in my area, so I don't really know.

The Maryland Bridge must be done meticulously well and only placed where it will succeed. It is easy to do one incorrectly or in the wrong situation and this is doomed to failure. I had one patient ask me to do a Maryland Bridge for a missing molar and her mouth was just not right for it. She decided that this is a free country and had it made by another dentist. Less than a month later, she started having trouble with it debonding and came to me to re-bond it. I told her to go back where she had it made, as it was even less likely that I could re-bond a bridge that never should have been made in the first place. She said that she couldn't believe I wouldn't try to help her out and I said the free country stuff worked both ways. I assume she is the other dentist's patient now, because that's the last time I saw her.
Reply:Maryland bridges were very popular 20 years ago. Unfortunately, they didn't live up to their expectations. Too many came unbonded, allowed decay, and had to be remade. Rather than a Maryland bridge, patients are better off with an implant and crown.
Reply:Yes , I have one , not on my front tooth but the one next to it. I had it done about 4 years ago and I love it! Getting it put in was so easy, it looks fantastic and is very easy to clean. ( you have to have a special kind of floss to clean around it) I completely reccomend it. Just make sure you are going to a dentist with a good reputation.
